Job Summary:
The Copy Editor will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of written content across various communication and media platforms. Responsibilities:
- Review and edit written content, including articles, features, blog posts, social media posts, press releases, and other materials, for clarity, grammar, style, punctuation, and consistency.
- Ensure that content adheres to the organization's established style guide, maintaining a cohesive brand voice.
- Collaborate with writers, journalists, and other team members to ensure that content meets deadlines and aligns with the organization's objectives and audience requirements.
- Verify facts, sources, and citations to ensure accuracy and credibility of information.
- Conduct thorough proofreading to identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Suggest improvements to enhance readability, flow, and overall quality of the written content.
- Ensure that content meets legal and ethical standards, including copyright and plagiarism guidelines.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in journalism, communication, and media, and integrate them into the organization's content development process.
- Work closely with the editorial team to brainstorm, develop, and implement strategies for enhancing content quality and engagement.
- Collaborate with designers, photographers, and other team members to ensure visual elements complement the written content effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Copy Editor or in a similar role within the journalism or media industry.
- Proficient knowledge of standard grammar, punctuation, and style guidelines (e.g., AP Stylebook).
- Excellent command of the English language, including exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify and correct errors quickly and accurately.
- Solid understanding of journalistic principles, ethics, and standards.
- Familiarity with digital media platforms and content management systems (CMS).
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
